NFL Weekly Sports Picks Green Bay Packers Injury Report Piling Up

Written by Jimmy Reilly on 10/11/2010 – 11:31 am -

A funny thing happened on the way to the Green Bay Packers being one popular top sports picks to win it all this NFL season. The realities of playing a collision sport have been plainly felt in Titletown, U.S.A., leaving a team that was an early season favorite to make a Super Bowl run now wondering how they can survive their next four-game stretch.

NFL  WEEKLY INJURY REPORT

The injury problem actually began in Week One. Starting running back Ryan Grant left the season-opener against the Philadelphia Eagles with an ankle injury. The team got grim news the next day when Grant needed season-ending surgery.

But he wouldn’t be the last key starter to see his 2010 season come to a premature close.

Two weeks ago, the Pack lost starting safety Morgan Burnett for the year with a torn ACL while linebacker Nick Barnett suffered a wrist injury needing season-ending surgery. But that was just foreshadowing of what may still be to come.

2010-11 NBA Picks Preview: Detroit Pistons

Written by Jimmy Reilly on 10/04/2010 – 11:24 am -

 NBA PREDICTIONS&PREVIEWS FOR 2010-11

2010-11 NBA Picks provides a NBA season preview for the Detroit Pistons, who finished last in the Central division and 12th in the Eastern conference with a 27-55 SU record last season.

Some of Detroit’s key offseason player moves include the additions of Tracy McGrady and Greg Monroe, and the losses of Chucky Atkins and Kwame Brown.

After a disappointing 2009-10 campaign, somewhat interestingly (and curiously), Detroit’s biggest moves during the summer involved resigning its own free agents, Ben Wallace and Will Bynum.

Wallace, in particular, apparently has decided the Pistons are his team, and vice versa, as this is the third time he’s signed with Detroit for a relatively low price ($4.3M over 2 years).

Likewise, Bynum was inked for the financially friendly price of $9.75 M over three seasons, a steal compared to comparable point guards like Steve Blake ($16M/4 years) and Derek Fisher ($10.5M/3 years).

New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins SUNDAY NIGHT PREVIEW

Written by Jimmy Reilly on 09/26/2010 – 9:36 am -

2010 NFL Expert Picks previews NBC’s Sunday Night Football matchup between AFC East division rivals New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium.

The Dolphins are 2.5-point home favorites for this divisional matchup while the over/under total is 35.5.

These teams always play each other closely, as evidenced by the fact the point spread has been higher than 3.5 for either team just twice in the past 10 head-to-head. The Dolphins took both meetings last season, winning 30-25 as a 3.5-point road underdog on Nov. 1, and winning 31-27 as a 3-point home dog on Oct. 12.

The Jets have a slight edge over the past 10 at 6-4 SU and 6-3-1 ATS, and are 17-7 SU in the past 24 meetings. New York is 4-2 SU in its past six trips to Miami.

This is New York’s second-straight divisional matchup. The Jets (1-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) beat the favored New England Patriots 28-14 last Sunday, easily cashing as a 3-point home underdog. The score went over the total.

2010 NBA Picks Reports that Nellie is Out In Oakland

Written by Jimmy Reilly on 09/24/2010 – 8:48 am -

Rejoice Golden State Warriors fans, your team may have gained traction in 2010 NBA picks. What was once a successful franchise has spent the past couple of decades floundering around in ways only a Clipper fan could appreciate. The GS-Dubs posted their worst season in eight years, going 26-56 and missing the playoffs for the 16th time in 18 seasons.

But it’s been a busy offseason for the boys in Oakland. Longtime owner Chris Cohan – long a target of fan angst – sold the team in July for a record $450 million. Immediately the rumors swirled that the new owners, venture capitalist Joe Lacob and movie mogul Peter Guber, planned to make major changes that included removing 70-year old head coach Don Nelson.

That change has come. Reports surfaced on Thursday that Nelson, the NBA’s winningest coach, would not return to coach the Warriors for a 12th season. Publicly, the move is being described as a resignation, but according to the San Francisco Chronicle, Nellie was asked to leave the organization completely.

2010 NFL Weekly Picks are on Alert as Michael Vick’s Play Vaporizes Kolb’s Starting Spot

Written by Jimmy Reilly on 09/22/2010 – 11:33 am -

Those 2010 NFL Weekly picks continue to change mostly because the revolving door of quarterbacks around the league has begun to spin. The biggest about face of all is in Philadelphia. Since Donovan McNabb’s trade to Washington in April, Kevin Kolb has been touted as The Man in Philly.

That status took a hit just two quarters into the season. With Kolb struggling and the Eagles trailing 13-3 to the Packers, the notoriously impatient Philly fans took their frustration out on their newly minted savior under center. When Kolb left the game, Vick grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He threw for 175 yards and ran for 103 more; nearly bringing the Eagles all the way back to win. The next week, Vick was less run (just 37 yards) and more throw (284 yards and 2 TDs) to help Philadelphia to a 35-32 win over Detroit.

Week 2 NFL Weekly Picks Recap

Written by Jimmy Reilly on 09/21/2010 – 10:57 am -

The Bounce back Theory has trapped more than one person making their NFL Weekly picks. Losing two in a row in the NFL stinks and generally if a quality team loses one week, you can predict them to bounce back and play well the following week. Chances are you may have subscribed to that theory this week, banking on teams that laid Week One stinkers to bounce back in Week Two.

Enter the Minnesota Vikings. After being just a couple of plays away from the Super Bowl last season, there wasn’t much concern after a season-opening loss to the defending champion Saints. But the anxiety level in the Twin Cities rose a bit after Sunday’s 14-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Most of that anxiety centers on the ankle and arm of Brett Favre.

After a magical 2009, Favre’s 2010 has had a bit of a false start. After being picked off 3 times on Sunday, Favre now has four interceptions this year versus just one touchdown. Very few people imagined he’d repeat last season’s career-low seven interceptions, but they certainly didn’t think he’d be more than halfway there after just two games.

NFL Weekly Picks Preview for Week 1: Denver @ Jacksonville

Written by Jimmy Reilly on 09/10/2010 – 8:49 am -

NFL Weekly Picks insider reports that Denver started last season with guns-a-blazing going 6-0 but the Broncos quickly went downhill. Many attributed rookie head coach Josh McDaniel’s lack of social maturity as perhaps the driving force behind the obvious lack of respect among players that contributed the team’s slide.

NFL PICKS  LOOK INSIDE THE NUMBER

Compounding the problem was WR Brandon Marshall’s attitude. Nonetheless, this season is already different with the absence of Marshall and the 1st round draft hype of rookie QB Tim Tebow (who was less than impressive in the preseason.) While Kyle Orton is the starter and has looked good in preseason, the backup has not been announced but our sources say that Tebow will get the nod over Brady Quinn.

Both teams had disappointing seasons last year; however Jacksonville will ride Maurice Drew on offense as he had 1,765 yards and 16 touchdowns last year. Jacksonville will struggle if they get behind and David Garrard has to use his inaccurate arm.
