2010/11 NBA Picks Insider Report: Agent Zero Thinking About Next Assignment
Written by Jimmy Reilly on 10/07/2010 – 2:49 pm -Let’s be honest, there’s nearly no one expecting the Washington Wizards to be a frequent 2010/11NBA picks this season. But with top overall draft pick John Wall on the roster, there’s talk that the Wiz may be working themselves into the thick of the playoff race in the next couple of years. Gilbert Arenas seems to believe that as well. He just doesn’t think he’ll be around to see it.
2010/11 NBA PICKS INSIDER REPORT
The veteran Wizards guard told reporters after Washington’s preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks that he plans on showing Wall “the ins and the outs of the game, and then eventually go on and move on.”
The reasons for Arenas’ resignation are many. After missing nearly an entire season because of a felony gun possession and 50-game NBA suspension, Agent Zero is aware of his status as a pariah in the nation’s capital. The Wizards removed any mention of Arenas from the team store and anywhere in the Verizon Center.

Enter John Wall. Since the moment he was drafted, he became the new face of the franchise. It doesn’t take a psychic to see the writing on the wall for Arenas. NBA teams don’t have room on the floor, the roster or the payroll for two marquee players at the point guard position. Even with Arenas’ production when he’s playing, it’s hard to imagine that Washington wants to continue being associated with the stigma of his off-court issues.
Yet in the short term, this could work out well for the Wizards. Arenas still has four years and nearly $80 million left on his contract, but in many ways the next couple of seasons could be “contract years” for him. Right now the price is likely going to be too high for most teams to bite, but don’t be surprised if in the next couple of years you start to hear Arenas’ name associated with expiring contracts.
The fact remains that when Arenas is on the court, he still has a lot to offer an NBA team and can transform most any squad into something you’d spend free NBA picks on. Entering his tenth season, the three-time All-Star averages more than 22 points per game and is a 35% three-point shooter.
Teams will continue to question his off-court judgment but if he can prove himself to be a changed man, it’s very likely that someone will end up with a very productive guard in the next couple of years.
